Scioto County Common Pleas Court: Terms of the Court

The Scioto County Common Pleas Court is in continuous session for judicial business transactions. The annual calendar is broken up into three different terms of the court as the January, May, and September term. These terms start at 8:30AM on the first day of the respective month. From here, all motions, cases, and other matters that are pending and are not disposed or are continued due to special entry can stand as continued until the term of court.

Scioto County Common Pleas Court: Hours of Court Sessions

The Scioto County Common Pleas Court starts every weekday at 8:30AM and then closes at noon for a lunch break. The Court then resumes at 1PM and stays open until 4:30PM unless the court orders otherwise. The exception of this is any days that proclamation by the President or Governor or law designates the day for legal holiday observation

The Domestic Relations Division of the Scioto County Court of Common Pleas of Ohio complies with the statutory requirements as well as the local rules of Scioto County along with the Ohio Rules of Civil Procedure. Furthermore, the court also follows the requirements of the Revised Code of Ohio and Scioto County Domestic Relation Court’s local rules.

All pleadings that are brought to Scioto County Common Pleas Court must contain the names, addresses, social security numbers, and birthdays of the parties that are involved in whatever case is at hand. The pleadings along with the forms that are required by the Court must be either typewritten or legibly printed in one-side page format only, unless otherwise specifically required by a statute, rule, or order of the court. Not complying with these rules cannot be a reason to extend time in any situation.

Scioto County Common Pleas court was created and given authority through the Ohio Legislature, specifically the Ohio Revised Code. Because of this code, the Scioto County Court of Common Pleas has jurisdiction over the following issues:

All proceedings involving child support.

Legal separation, dissolution, divorce and annulment cases.

Allocation of parental responsibilities and rights in regards to the care of a child or children along with the designation for a place or residence of the child/children and legal custodian

Parenting time and visitation

All other coming that relate to Chapter 3111 of the Ohio Revised Code, which is the determination of parentage.
